The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is a statutory body established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, which consolidates various acts & orders that have hitherto handled food-related issues in various Ministries and Departments. FSSAI has been created for laying down science-based standards for articles of food and to regulate their manufacture, storage, distribution, sale, and import, ensuring availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption. Food businesses in India must obtain a license or registration from FSSAI to operate. The type of license depends on the scale of the business and the nature of its activities.
Based on the size and nature of your business, determine whether you need basic FSSAI registration (for small businesses) or a state/central license. Small-scale food organisations having annual Turnover of up to Rs. 12 lakhs are eligible for FSSAI registration as otherwise they need to go for License.
Visit the FSSAI’s official website and choose the appropriate form (Form A for registration and Form B for state and central licensing). Fill out the form with accurate business details.
Along with the application form, upload the required documents. Make sure all documents are valid and up-to-date.
After submitting the application online, pay the required fee for registration or licensing. The fee varies depending on the type of registration or license.
